This style of windshield sticker was issued, at least in the late 1970s and early 1980s, to allow owners of newly registered vehicles to operate their vehicles up to 10 days without a valid D.C. inspection sticker. The inspection had to be completed by the expiration date punched in the sticker. These ten-day temporary stickers are no longer needed because a change in registration procedure calls for the inspection to be conducted before the registration is obtained and while the vehicle is being operated with D.C. temporary plates or regular plates from one of the states. Special "two-way" envelopes were used for registration renewal transactions for a number of years. The envelope took paperwork in two directions: first by the DMV to mail a renewal application to the motorist, and then by the motorist to return the form and corresponding fee to the DMV. Key Tags
Key tags that resemble license plates were distributed by the Disabled American Veterans organization from the early 1940s through the mid-1970s, accompanied by contribution solicitations. Earlier tags, such as the 1940 example pictured, are embossed brass and were distributed by of B.F. Goodrich Co. to promote its vehicle tires.

AAA Badges
The badges shown below were distributed to Washington-area motorists that were members of the local branch of the American Automobile Association. All except for the badge-and-bracket combination pictured at the bottom are stainless steel or chrome plated steel.
